We meet at “Stjerne Kikker Yurten” (The Star Gazing Yurt) at Refhaleøen, located between Hart Bakery and the water front. Please note: The event starts at 19:00 sharp, so plan your transportation accordingly and be there 10 min before as it will be a huge disruption to arrive late to the circle. <3
Feel free to bring a planket, sheep skin or similar to sit on.
And bring something that represents the beloved dead you wish to celebrate and remember, a photograph, a note, an object or whatever makes most sense for you. <3
There are people who die and somehow never really leave us.
They turn up in dreams. In old photographs and inherited objects. In the stories we tell over and over again. In a particular song, a smell, a recipe, a strange little habit we suddenly realise we got from them.
On the evening of November 1, we gather for them.
The Dead We Love is an intimate Samhain ritual and gathering dedicated to remembering the people we have loved and lost, and to spending a few hours a little closer to the other side.
In the beautiful star gazing yurt, only 13 of us will gather in a circle around the fire.
Together we will create an altar for our dead. Bring a photograph, an object, a flower, a letter or simply a name. Something that says: you were here, and I remember you.
We’ll eat soul cakes and drink mugwort & hibiscus tea. We’ll share ritual smoke around the fire. And everyone who wishes to will have time to tell us about the person they have brought with them into the circle.
Tell us who they were.
Tell us what you loved about them. What drove you absolutely mad about them. Tell us the story everyone has heard a hundred times. Tell us the thing you never want to forget.
Death does not demand that we become terribly serious.
We can mourn our dead. We can miss them. We can laugh about them. We can speak their names and keep their stories moving among the living.
And before the night is over, we’ll turn to the tarot.
One by one, Mariia will pull a single card for each person in the circle, a message from the loved one you have come to remember.
Whether you understand that as spirit communication, divination, intuition, synchronicity, or simply a strange and beautiful card appearing at exactly the right moment is entirely yours to decide.
This is not a séance, and it is not a Halloween party.
It is something quieter and stranger.
